The team brief was to create a list of some possible tracks, which were upbeat and lively from any genre for the next meeting on Wednesday 4th July. The list is accompanied by the reasons behind my choice, and any possible downfalls.
[ Possibilities ]
The Pink Spiders - Awkward Time In Elevators / Knock Knock
This song is very lively and has a strong guitar riff, although it does not overpower the rest of the music, allowing us the chance not to have any performance (playing of the guitar) in our video, should we choose this. The song progresses, both musically and lyrically so it doesn't seem to be repetetive or dull, and also allows us to progress any possible narrative in the video, but has a clear chorus for a possible motif. The only downfall is that the song falls short of the expected 3 minute duration by 28 seconds.
The Academy Is... - Checkmarks
Again, a very lively song, this time with a strong drum beat. The song has a lot of energy and has a stronger element of repetition, allowing for a more prominent motif. This song lends itself more towards the harder performance style music video, which is one downfall, but it is almost exactly the target length of 3 minutes.
Snow Patrol - Last Ever Lone Gunman
This song is energetic, but not very conventionally pop-ish, but sounds more muffled and subdued even. This fits more with the british scene, compared to the last two which were very american. The time is also roughly 3 minutes, so that is good, but I am having trouble picturing a suitable video style that can accompany it.
Jet - Take It Or Leave It
This song is very high tempo, and very energetic, plus has an intro that comprises completely of clapping, which is easy to do and would be able to make easily and would look good. This song is unfortunately only as long as 2:22, so falls very short of the target length.
The Killers - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine
This song has always been a personal favourite of mine, but not least because it's an upbeat song, but also very unconventional in the way that it executes it. Unfortunately, it is 1 minute too long.
Kings Of Leon - Wasted Time
Again, very upbeat and lively. A cheerful song to make a music video to.
The Living End - Carry Me Home
Upbeat, yet slightly too heavy/punk-ish so might not be very easy to make or be to everyone's taste.
OK Go - Do What You Want / You're So Damn Hot
Strong beat, pulsing and quick. Good melody, nice lyrics. Would be a good candidate.
SmashMouth - Walkin' On The Sun
Might have a music video already made, but I can't find one. Just a cult classic.
Switchfoot - Redemption
Unlikely, but nevertheless a very promising track.
I will add more if and when I encounter possible tracks...
